As a “retired” Registered Nurse, and a mother of two graduated homeschoolers myself (both now college graduates, with one currently in graduate school!), I realize the need for “outside help” in some areas, including quality biology lab time. I have taught Biology as well as Human Anatomy and Physiology for grades 3-12 (and their parents!) since 1995, at GRACE Homeschool Association in Wyoming, Michigan, for several other home school groups, and through various labs as are offered here. I also currently teach a variety of science classes (including very popular Crime Scene Investigation labs) through other homeschool groups in West Michigan.
During the 2010-2011 school year I also added a weekly class for GRACE Homeschool Association in American Red Cross certification in CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillators for the first part of the year, ending with a Health class for grades 7-12 the second part of the school year.
These particular dissection sessions will be taught from a Christian viewpoint, allowing all to truly appreciate God’s creation.
Though these monthly 2-1/2 hour to 3 hour labs are geared toward a junior high, high-school/adult level, elementary students are most welcome to participate with an adult or older student 8th grade or higher. Many elementary students as young as 5 or 6 have enjoyed participating in these labs in the past!
As a parent, this is also a wonderful opportunity to learn techniques and either share the learning experience with your children, or bring home your new knowledge to pass on to your younger students. I am also an Instructor and Instructor Trainer for the American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids, certified to teach CPR, AED and First Aid courses for both Lay Responders and Professional Rescuers, Bloodborne Pathogens, Pet First Aid, and Babysitting, all of which I currently teach at the ARC Chapter Building in Grand Rapids. I also periodically teach the ARC Babysitting classes at the Home School Building—generally during Christmas break and also in late May or early June.
I may be available for specialty labs and classes, including CPR/FA and Babysitting classes at your site with special arrangements. Since my school year schedule is some what hectic, this may require up to a year in advance notice for on-going classes. Call or email for more information.
